On February 13, 2024, the Central Missouri CPCU Society met at Missouri Employers Mutual to go over the Missouri Hands-Free Driving Law. The speaker was Larry Lambert and gave a speech called "Legally Speaking" about the new Missouri law that attempts to curb distracted driving in the state. Larry went over the nuances of the law and how it will impact Missouri drivers. The main goal of the law is to reduce traffic deaths in Missouri. We learned the law applies not only to phones but all devices in a moving vehicle. There are also some commercial exceptions to the law. For example, if a dispatcher is calling a truck driver. The law is also a secondary violation in Missouri, while some states have it as a primary violation. The law could have changes in future years depending on how the first few years go of it being in force.

Next Meeting Information
